FIRE UNITS BATTLE MASSIVE HARRIMAN WOODS FIRE SEVEN HOURS THURSDAY

Forestry personnel and Harriman fire with assistance from other agencies battled a woods fire that ran up Walden’s Ridge from West Hills Drive Thursday afternoon. Fire crews worked to contain the fire well into the night. The original call came in around 3:30 when an outdoor burning at a residence at the intersection of Scenic Drive and West Hills Drive got out of control and started to spread damaging an outbuilding at a neighbor’s home before spreading Into the woods. Smoke could be seen from the fire from miles and fortunately, no structures were damaged from the fire which was reported under control around 10 pm Thursday. High winds at the time of the original call were to blame for the fire spreading and the homeowner apparently had a burn permit. A 70-year-old was needing medical attention at the start of the fire and an ambulance was sent to check him out. No other injuries were reported
