FIVE INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON I-40

A single vehicle accident early last night (Saturday, October 14, 2017) on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County resulted in five injuries. According to the accident report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer driven by 50-year-old Ricky Teffeteller of Knoxville was traveling east at the 316 mile marker just after 6 p.m. when he lost control, struck a guard rail, overturned and struck the side of a concrete bridge. The vehicle came to rest on its top in the middle of both eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 facing south. Teffeteller and four passengers in the vehicle, 46-year-old Angela Teffeteller, 18-year-old Marshall Teffeteller and 17-year-old Noah Teffeteller, all of Knoxville, and Nancy Perkins of Honaker, Virginia were all transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. Lifestar landed at the scene of the accident to transport at least one to UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Troopers say all five were restrained at the time of the accident. The conditions of the five were not released by troopers. Eastbound traffic on Interstate 40 was backed up for miles as troopers investigated the accident and crews later cleared the scene.
