FIVE VEHICLE CRASH REPORTED ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded late Saturday morning to a five-vehicle accident on I-40 at the 319-mile marker in Cumberland County.
The report released today states the crash involved a 2022 GMC 2500 pickup driven by 74-year-old Billy Randel McCarty, a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup operated by 31-year-old William Mark Hayes, a 2021 BMW sedan operated by 38-year-old Ashley A. Vaughn, a 2009 Toyota Venza driven by 80-year-old Michael Danko, and a 2019 Lexus RX3 operated by 51-year-old Robert Shane Scoggins.
Troopers say Hayes, McCarty, and Scoggins were nearing a complete stop because of traffic congestion. Danko failed to slow down and rear-ended Scoggins causing the chain reaction crash.
Vaughn took evasive action and went into the median.
Danko was issued a citation for failure to exercise due care.
No injuries were reported to the drivers or passengers.
