FLASH FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR CUMBERLAND PLATEAU AREA

The National Weather Service has issued a FLASH FLOOD WATCH for the following counties in the coverage area:

CUMBERLAND, FENTRESS, OVERTON, PICKETT, PUTNAM, and WHITE

This watch goes into effect at 6 p.m. central Wednesday, February 12, 2020 and is scheduled to expire at 9 a.m. central Thursday, February 13, 2020. This watch area is likely to be extended into the valley areas east of the Plateau.

Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible.

Rain will move in Wednesday afternoon with heavier intense rain with possible severe weather moving in Wednesday evening after 10 p.m. central. This will increase the risk for flash flooding. Already elevated levels on several area rivers, creeks, and streams will worsen through the period. Also be advised the area is under a threat of severe weather late Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The timing of impact appears to be between midnight to 3 a.m. central on the Plateau and 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. eastern in the valley.
