The rain is making its way out of the area today but not before leaving all kinds of problems over this weekend.

A flood warning issued for the Emory River at Oakdale in Morgan and Roane counties was cancelled late last night. Weather officials say the river started to recede stopping short of what would have been over flood stage. The river rose 14 feet in just seven hours and still continued to rise yesterday afternoon. A voluntary evacuation was requested for residents on Riverview Road and the immediate area along the river in Oakdale. A shelter was set up at Oakdale United Methodist Church. A rock slide was also reported in Oakdale that resulted in Highway 62 being blocked.

In Cumberland County, rising water shut down Highway 68 in Grassy Cove for a while as water came over the road. Water also flooded Clint Lowe Road south of Lake Tansi where an elderly lady was trapped in her vehicle from the rising water. She was not injured.

A few roads in Fentress and Overton counties also reportedly had water over them but for the most part the damage was very limited.

Power outages became an issue again yesterday. Volunteer Electric reported that Cumberland County had over 1,400 customers at one time without power from storms Friday. Yesterday, Bradley, McMinn and Meigs saw a total of over 5,000 customers without power from storms that rolled in. Much of the power outage was blamed on trees being blown down from high winds on power lines.

Numerous accidents took place in the area from heavy rainfall. Reports from the Tennessee Highway Patrol was not immediately available because of the high volume of accidents.

Strong thunderstorms slammed into Knoxville just as the Orange and White football game was in progress yesterday. The game was called at halftime. Damage was reported in many parts of the city and in Powell when a tree fell onto a house.
