FORMER CROSSVILLE BUSINESSMAN APPEARS IN COURT FOR ROBBERY

A former Crossville businessman made his first appearance in a Bradley County courtroom this week, charged with the armed robbery of CVS at Cleveland. Officers say 43-year-old Terry D. Hassler was arrested last Friday afternoon for aggravated robbery and evading arrest. According to the arrest report obtained by 105.7 News from the Cleveland Police Department, officers responded to CVS at 180 Keith Street S.W. for a robbery call. As police arrived, they observed a vehicle matching the description of the one Hassler was in pulling out of the parking lot of the business. The report states Hassler called a family member then stopped on North Lee Highway just north of Morgan Johnson Road, where he was taken into custody without incident. Once in custody, a search was conducted of Hassler which revealed an electronic device strapped to his leg, which he reportedly stated was a cell phone jammer. Hassler then allegedly confessed to the CVS robbery, as well as four more around the Tennessee area dating back to March of this year. (The locations of the four other robberies were not released by authorities) Hassler then reportedly gave an account of the events leading up to the crime. The report states Hassler put oil in his vehicle that morning, grabbed a bag containing a mask, cell phone jammer and clothes used in the robbery. Hassler then left Crossville for Cleveland with the pharmacy address in his GPS. Hassler reportedly arrived in Cleveland and began surveillance on the pharmacies in the city. He allegedly picked CVS, walked straight to the pharmacy and handed the pharmacist a note describing what was to be performed. The report states Hassler became impatient and demanded the note back, but realized the pharmacist was filling the bag with the pills he desired. Hassler allegedly took the bag and demanded the note back. When the pharmacist refused, Hassler reportedly produced a Glock handgun. The pharmacist returned the note and Hassler fled the store, ran around to the back of the building where his vehicle was parked, only to see law enforcement approaching. Hassler was initially processed at the Bradley County jail and placed under a quarter-million dollar bond. Jail officials stated a hold was also placed on Hassler from another law enforcement agency. According to court officials, Hassler was arraigned in Bradley County court this past Monday and will return on June 21, 2018.
