FORMER CUMBERLAND COUNTY EMS EMPLOYEE TO APPEAR IN COURT THEFT AND OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT
A Cumberland County man is facing serious felony charges after a grand jury returned an indictment alleging he stole tens of thousands of dollars from the county by falsifying emergency medical services timesheets. Adam Ray Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned in the Cumberland County Criminal Court on July 7, 2026, following a grand jury investigation aided by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office.
According to court documents filed on June 16, 2026, the grand jury returned a “true bill” indicting Johnson on three separate counts stemming from actions allegedly committed between August 21, 2023, and September 14, 2025.
The specific charges brought against Johnson include:
-
Theft of Property ($60,000 – $250,000): A Class B felony alleging Johnson knowingly exercised unlawful control over more than $60,000 belonging to Cumberland County.
-
Official Misconduct: A Class E felony alleging that while acting as a public servant, Johnson intentionally falsified timesheets to receive payment for hours he did not work at the Cumberland County Emergency Medical Service.
-
Destruction & Tampering with Governmental Records: A Class E felony alleging that Johnson knowingly presented or used false documents with the intent that they be accepted as genuine government records.
The indictment follows an investigation featuring testimony from Courtney Dyer and Kelsey Earl of the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office, who are listed as key state witnesses for the prosecution. The formal presentation of charges was overseen by District Attorney General Bryant C. Dunaway during the June 2026 term of the Criminal Court.
Court Status: Johnson is currently free on a $125,000 surety bond executed through Huckabee Bonding. His official reading of the charges will take place during his upcoming arraignment hearing on Tuesday, July 7.
