FORMER DIRECTOR OF THE UCDD BEGINS SERVING PRISON SENTENCE

The former director of the Upper Cumberland Development District reported to prison Monday to begin serving her sentence connected to the theft of federal funds. Wendy Askins pleaded guilty to charges back in Aug. 2016 in exchange for a plea-bargain deal. Askins, who was convicted in the “Living the Dream” scheme, will serve 18 months and pay back $233,000 in restitution. All other counts were dismissed. Askins Allegedly used the money that had been earmarked for a low-cost housing development for seniors for herself and her daughter’s livelihood.
