FORMER UCDD DIRECTOR SENTENCED IN “LIVING THE DREAM” CASE

Former Upper Cumberland Development District director Wendy Askins was in state court Monday and pleaded guilty to forgery charges in the “Living the Dream” case. She was sentence to serve one year in prison. Because of her plea-bargain, theft and money laundering charges will be dismissed. Friday, Askins appeared before a federal judge after pleading guilty to federal charges involving fraud. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison at that time and both sentences will run concurrently. Askins was in charge of a federal project that would have built a specialized home for senior citizens in Cookeville. But instead she used the funds to construct the home in which she lived with her daughter.
