FREEZE WARNINGS ISSUED FOR CUMBERLAND PLATEAU COUNTIES

The National Weather Service has issued a FREEZE WARNING and a HARD FREEZE WARNING for the Cumberland Plateau including the counties of:

CUMBERLAND, FENTRESS, OVERTON, PICKETT, PUTNAM, WHITE and VAN BUREN

For the Freeze Warning tomorrow morning from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. central (April 1, 2021), low temperatures will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

For the Hard Freeze Warning from 10 p.m. Thursday night to 9 a.m. Friday morning (April 1-2, 2021), low temperatures will be in the low to mid 20s.

IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Freezing temperatures and a few patches of frost will occur for a short time around daybreak Thursday. Much greater impact is expected Thursday night into Friday morning with a hard freeze expected to last for several hours along with widespread frost.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Temperatures will quickly climb this weekend and with sunny skies will set up a beautiful Easter.
