SHOTS FIRED OFF OF SAWMILL ROAD RESULTS IN RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT CHARGE

Cumberland County authorities responded to a home on the 1800 block of Sawmill Road Monday night for shots fired at the residence.

While approaching the dwelling, an officer observed a vehicle with its lights on at a home within eyesight of the incident location.

A male subject, identified as 18-year-old Cameron Ashley Sherrill of Crossville, exited the building and the deputy informed him to place his hands on the vehicle where he remained. Two others in the automobile were asked to step out. They stated Sherrill discharged a rifle while they were there to drive their Jeep in the mud.

Sherrill reportedly admitted to discharging the weapon but in front of the home. Sherrill allowed law enforcement to come into the residence where the carbine rifle was retrieved. There were no spent casings found by authorities in the front yard.

A witness then told deputies Sherrill was shooting in the back yard toward a dirt berm.

The same male then stated Sherrill discharged the firearm toward the back door of the home of the resident who reported the incident.

The arrest report states law enforcement retrieved 17 spent casings.

They also collected a round that traveled into the dwelling barely missing the head of a man by inches who was sitting in a recliner. Sherrill was charged with reckless endangerment. The firearm was seized for evidence.
