GRANT TO BE APPLIED FOR TO PAY FOR NEW SHINGLES ON ROOF OF HOMESTEAD TOWER
In their meeting yesterday, the Cumberland County Building and Grounds Committee heard from representatives of the Homestead Tower.
They intend to apply for a $100,000 grant to go towards new shingles on the roof of the historic tower.
The total cost from Turner Roofing Company came in at $162,000. The windows need to be replaced on the tower for $15,000, bringing the total cost to $177,000.
A motion was made to contribute a maximum amount of $60,000 to go along with the grant, if it is accepted by the state, to do the project.
The committee unanimously accepted the motion.
It will go to the finance committee for their consideration. Should it pass the finance committee, it will go to the county commission for their consideration.
As a condition of the proposed grant, the work must be completed by June 30, 2024.
