GUNS AND MARIJUANA FOUND IN OCCUPIED VAN PARKED AT SEQUATCHIE COUNTY SCHOOL

The Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reports that two people have been arrested, one of them a convicted felon, after finding guns and marijuana in their van on the school campus Wednesday. Before school began Wednesday morning, the Sequatchie County School Resource Officer Sergeant Steven Billingsley received a report of a suspicious van with Ohio tags on the school property. After talking with the man and woman in the van, Billingsley found they had a handgun and a rifle inside. The rifle was dismantled and not in firing condition. Officers also found marijuana and other drug paraphernalia inside. Danny Edward Parker and Kristy Dawn Routte had been reportedly living out of the vehicle, and had dropped off a child at the school. The officers also found out that Parker was a convicted felon and was not allowed to be around firearms. Parker and Routte were taken to the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office and charged with possession of marijuana. Parker was also charged with felon in possession of a weapon. The incident happened before school was in session and officials say there was never any threat to the school system or anyone on the property. The Dunlap Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Drug Division are assisting with the investigation.
