HAMILTON COUNTY COMMISSIONER INDICTED BY GRAND JURY

Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained an indictment for a Hamilton County commissioner accused of attempting to extort an opponent in an upcoming election. At the request of 11th District Attorney General Neal Pinkston, TBI agents began investigating Hamilton County Commissioner Timothy Boyd. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that the 65-year-old Boyd attempted to force an opponent to withdraw from the commissioner’s race by threatening to release information Boyd perceived as damaging to his opponent. Yesterday, a Hamilton County grand jury returned an indictment charging the Chattanooga man with one count of extortion. Boyd later surrendered to authorities at the Hamilton County Jail, where he was booked and released after posting $2,500 bond.
