HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL DISCUSSES TURNING OLD ROANE MEDICAL CENTER INTO NEW VA HOSPITAL
Members of the Harriman City Council are looking at the possibility of turning the former Roane medical Center building into a VA hospital. The discussion came up at a council meeting where it was reported that Sen. Lamar Alexander and Sen. Bob Corker were interested in establishing such a hospital in Knoxville. In the past, the council had pushed for the facility to be used by the VA but the effort never received federal support. City Mayor Wayne Best said that a recent feasibility study of the building revealed it could be used for a new city hall or police or any city office facility. City Manager Kevin Helms was tasked to set up a meeting with the proper contacts. The facility costs the city some $60,000 a year in maintenance and upkeep.
