HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

On Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m., the Harriman City Council convened for their second monthly meeting at City Hall, addressing several key agenda items.
They approved full payment of a $6,912 Harriman Utility Board gas bill, which had increased due to inaccurate readings from new meters that initially undercharged the city, with the corrected bill now reflecting accurate charges. The council noted that some residential customers might also face higher bills due to similar meter inaccuracies.
Additionally, the council passed an ordinance on its first reading to allow fines and costs to be collected through a collection agency, though Mayor Best expressed concerns about pursuing debts up to 12 years old, as some individuals may be unaware, have moved, or passed away. The council agreed to likely limit debt collection to one year upon the ordinance’s second reading.
Finally, the council adopted two resolutions: one implementing the 2024 International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings with amendments and repealing conflicting prior resolutions, and another adopting the International Building Codes with amendments.
