HARRIMAN CITY COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

During this week’s Harriman City Council meeting, officials unanimously approved a new ordinance targeting inoperable or “junk” vehicles parked on city streets and private residential property. The decision followed a public hearing where some residents expressed concerns regarding a lack of prior notification and the methods of code enforcement, leading City Attorney John Owings to address several citizens’ questions directly. Under the new rules, violators who fail to remove non-functional vehicles face potential fines and citations in city court.

Beyond the vehicle ordinance, the council took swift action to establish a one-year moratorium on new vape shops and products to allow time for a comprehensive study on appropriate zoning and regulations for such businesses. The session concluded with the approval of several infrastructure and safety investments, including the purchase of new body cameras for the police department and a $25,000 contract awarded to J.B. Asphalt for street repairs and paving in the West Hills area.
