NEAR COLLISION IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY RESULTS IN TRAFFIC STOP, ARREST, CONTRABAND AND METH CHARGES

On the evening of May 5, 2026, Deputy Tyler Leary of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a gray van near the intersection of Main Street and Braun Street in Crossville after observing the vehicle nearly strike another motorist. The driver was identified as 51-year-old Rosie Hyett Rector, who was found to be operating the vehicle with a revoked license. Although Rector initially denied possessing any illegal items, she was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Intake facility for booking.

During the intake process, correctional officers discovered a white crystal-like substance on Rector’s person, which weighed approximately 0.2 grams and was identified as methamphetamine. As a result, Rector faces multiple charges, including driving on a revoked license, possession of methamphetamine, and bringing contraband into a penal facility.

The evidence was secured for TBI Lab testing, and Rector’s vehicle was left at a nearby church parking lot at her request, with the understanding that the Sheriff’s Office assumed no responsibility for the unsecured vehicle. Rector is scheduled to appear in court on June 15, 2026, with a total bond set at $12,000.
