HARRIMAN FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO SMOKING TRAIN CAR
In overnight news, the Harriman Fire Department responded to a report at the railroad crossing on Garrett Street, located behind the former Family Dollar on South Roane Street. A Norfolk Southern train had a grain car that was allegedly on fire.
According to Fire Chief Jon Johnson, the car was loaded with grain and posed no threat to the surrounding area.
Firefighters applied approximately 800 gallons of water to the car before Norfolk Southern personnel took over and handled the situation themselves. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. last night. The car had been observed smoking as the train passed through Rockwood and came to a stop in the Emory Gap area for the issue to be addressed.
