HARRIMAN VOTERS COULD DECIDE AGAIN ON SALES TAX REFERENDUM

The City of Harriman is looking at conducting a sales-tax referendum to fund projects in the future. The city council will hold a first reading of an ordinance tomorrow (Tuesday, April 3, 2018) to place the matter on the ballot. The city is asking voters to raise the local option sales tax from 2.5 to 2.75 percent, with the additional money going toward improvements to streets, sidewalks and bridges. The ordinance will limit what the money can be spent on. Two years ago, Harriman voters opposed the tax rate increase.
