HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED BY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

A HEAT ADVISORY has been issued by the National Weather Service from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. central today (Sunday, July 19, 2020). The advisory includes the following counties:

RHEA, MEIGS, MCMINN, HAMILTON, BRADLEY AND SEVERAL COUNTIES WEST OF PUTNAM

Heat index up to 107 can be expected in areas west of the plateau and in the valley.

On the plateau, high temperatures will approach 90 degrees and if you add the heat index (what it feels like), it will be around 100 in many places.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay cool and out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Also, take precautions if you work or spend time outside, rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
