HIGH-SPEED I-75 CHASE ENDS IN SWEETWATER; PERP IN CUSTODY

Tennessee Highway Patrol officers say a Sweetwater man led them on a high-speed chase through McMinn County and into Sweetwater Tuesday night.

According to a THP spokesman, 24-year-old Fidencio Aranda’s Chevy Cobalt was clocked at over 100 miles an hour near mile marker 39 on I-75.

THP Lieutenant John Harmon said officers pursued him into Sweetwater, where they deployed spike strips at Exit 60. Aranda drove over the spike strips and stopped when they disabled his vehicle.

Aranda, who had active warrants in Monroe County for theft, was additionally charged with speeding, reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, felony evading, driving on a revoked license, DUI, failure to maintain a lane of travel, no insurance, no seatbelt, no registration, theft of vehicle and resisting arrest.

Law enforcement from McMinn, Monroe and Loudon counties, as well as Sweetwater and Athens Police departments assisted THP.
