HIGH SPEED PURSUIT ON SPARTA HIGHWAY ENDS WITH ARREST OF PARKS

While on a recent patrol on Sparta Highway, a Crossville police officer observed a motorcyclist traveling in excess of the speed limit. The report states the rider, 32-year-old Lawrence Mack Parks, slowed down around the intersection with Tennessee Avenue, made a U-turn then took off heading west reaching speeds of near 90 miles per hour. The chase went off the highway at Parks Road when the suspect got onto a dirt trail. Parks got off the motorcycle in a wooded area and was later apprehended after a struggle with police. A taser was deployed in the attempt to arrest Parks but did not penetrate his skin because of multiple layers of clothing he had on. He was charged with felony evading arrest and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license.
