HIGHWAY 68 CLOSURE MEANS LONGER TRAVEL TIME FOR GRANDVIEW STUDENTS
TDOT crews are working to repair a section of Highway 68 between Grandview and Spring City that collapsed late last month from heavy rains. That collapse also affected more than 200 students who live on Grandview Mountain and attend schools in Rhea County. School officials say buses have to come back into Cumberland County to Cox Valley Road then to Crab Orchard. From there, they travel Highway 70 East to Rockwood to Highway 27 back toward Spring City. The trip for students is an hour each way, making for a longer day for them. TDOT spokesperson Jennifer Flynn said after the road is stabilized, workers will build a retaining wall and hope to have the road back open by May 31, 2018.
