HIGHWAY 70 NORTH BRIDGE WORK EXPECTED TO FINISH JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Motorists traveling along State Route 24 (Highway 70 North) in Cumberland County should prepare for significant travel disruptions and an extended road closure as a major bridge replacement project gets underway.
The project, centered on log mile 15 over the Obed River, began with initial flagging operations and a permanent closure starting November 19, 2025, and is stated to remain in place through the project’s expected completion date on December 20, 2026.
Contractors are focusing on general clearing activities and necessary utility work before launching full-scale bridge replacement over the Obed River. To bypass the closure, drivers are advised to follow the official posted detour utilizing Northside Drive and Sparta Highway.
Transportation officials urge all motorists to exercise caution, plan extra travel time, and strictly follow posted detour signs when navigating the work zone.
