A late-night collision on Interstate 40 West resulted in no injuries early Thursday morning, according to a preliminary report released today from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

The crash occurred on August 21, 2026, at approximately 4:34 AM CDT near the 323-mile marker in Cumberland County.

According to investigators, a 2009 Ford Escape driven by 42-year-old Tennessee resident Sherry E. Parsons was traveling westbound in Lane 2. For reasons still under investigation, the SUV crossed the right fog line and struck the rear of a parked commercial vehicle.

The second vehicle involved was a 2025 International Day Cab combination pulling a 2023 Wabash trailer, operated by 57-year-old David Mitchell of Tennessee. The semi-truck was stationary on the right shoulder facing west at the time of the impact.

The force of the collision caused the semi-truck combination to overturn onto its left side, coming to a final rest blocking Lane 1. The Ford Escape came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and neither sustained injuries.

No charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
