HIGHWAY 70 NORTH CRASH ON DEC. 3RD RESULTS IN ONE FATALITY
According to a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, On Saturday, Dec. 3rd, a 2024 International Semi-tractor driven by Curtis W. Cope was pulling a semi-trailer and traveling south on Highway 70 North, and a 2009 Hyundai Elantra driven by Marvin D. Abston with passenger, Tammie D. Phillips, was traveling north on Highway 70 North.
Cope’s Semi-tractor was slowing to turn left in the Cove Market parking lot, and made the left turn in front of Abston’s Hyundai, hitting the left front of the vehicle. The semi-tractor came to final rest in both northbound and southbound lanes, while the Hyundai came to final rest near the northbound lane and the parking lot entrance near the area of impact.
Phillips was killed in the crash, while Abston sustained injuries.
Cope would be charged with Failure to yield the right of way.
