On May 26, 2025, at around 9:17 PM, police were dispatched to Dayton Ave, at a care facility belonging to Hilltopper’s, following a reported assault. The suspect, David Almonrode, a 21-year employee, admitted to slapping a client across the face with a nitrile glove because they were yelling and it irritated him.

Almonrode demonstrated the act and was read his Miranda Rights, but declined to answer further questions after asking if prior incidents would incriminate him. A witness confirmed the assault, stating it occurred while they were changing the victim, who was repeatedly asking to be put in his wheelchair. The witness reported Almonrode also verbally abused the victim, telling him to “shut the hell up” and making a threatening remark about “smacking him around.”

The victim, a partially verbal vulnerable adult requiring full-time care, reported eye pain from the slap and called Almonrode “bad” but did not confirm prior incidents. No visible injuries were observed on the victim.

Almonrode was arrested and charged with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center.
