HOMEOWNER HOLDS BURGLARS AT GUNPOINT UNTIL DEPUTIES ARRIVE

Roane County deputies responded to a call last night for a burglary in progress – with a twist – on the 100 block of Honeysuckle Road. Deputies found the homeowner in a doorway leading to the garage, with his gun trained on 28-year-old Tawny Michelle Inman and 30-year-old Robert Andrew Monroe, whom he said had entered his home. The homeowner said when he found Inman sitting on the steps, he went to retrieve his weapon; on his return, he saw Monroe coming down the steps from a room over the garage.

According to reports, Inman said she thought Monroe was renting the property, while Monroe claimed to have entered through the unlocked front door. A search of Monroe turned up a black bag filled with a variety of keys and a garage-door opener clipped to his pants pocket that, upon activation, opened the homeowner’s garage door. The homeowner said he kept that remote in an unlocked vehicle in his driveway.

There was evidence of someone eating in the room above the garage, including trash and other food that had been stored in the garage, according to the homeowner. Inman and Monroe were arrested for aggravated burglary and taken to the Roane County Detention Facility.
