HORSE KILLED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY; OWNER OF HORSE ISSUED CITATION

A horse was killed in a single vehicle accident in Cumberland County yesterday. Deputies state in their report a 2012 Jeep Wrangler driven by 32-year-old Tara C. Oakes of Crossville was traveling on the 800 block of Vandever Road with her family when a horse came out into the middle of the road. Oakes did not have time to react because of limited visibility from rainfall and struck the horse head-on. The horse died from injuries sustained. A possible injury was noted to one in the Jeep. Deputies spoke with the owner of the horse, Nancy Lewis, who told them her horses have been getting out often and she has tried to keep them in. Lewis was issued a citation for livestock running at large.
