HO– USE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE PASSES SCHOOL BUS SEAT BELT BILL

Earlier this week the House Transportation Committee passed the bill on that would require Tennessee school buses to have seat belts. The legislation was submitted by Rep. JoAnne Favors of Chattanooga in response to the tragic Woodmore School Bus crash in November 2016 which claimed the lives of 6 students and injured several more. Many of the parents and friends of those students attended the meeting in Nashville. Concerns were raised over the cost of the venture, even after the bill was amended to require all buses to be retrofitted with the restraints by 2023. The bill passed 9-7 and will now move on to the Education and Planning Committee.
