INMATE FOUND HANGED IN CUMBERLAND CO JAIL

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating  a case concerning an inmate who was found hanged in the Cumberland County Jail.  Crossville News First contacted Sheriff Casey Cox who told them that it was an apparent attempted suicide but that inmate was alive.  That inmate died later at CMC.

The inmate was later identified as 44-year-old Mark Christopher Brown of Eastland Road in Cumberland County.

In May of this year, a Cumberland County grand jury indicted Brown for second-degree murder.  According to court documents, Brown stands accused of distributing meth to 22-year-old Madison Christine Brown in June 2020 resulting in her death. The cause was determined to be methamphetamine toxicity.  Brown was also charged with the sale of a Schedule II drug (meth) and the delivery of a Schedule II drug (meth).

Police reports indicate that Mark Brown was found hanging by a noose fabricated from a sheet from the inmate’s bed. He was rushed to CMC where he was later prounounced dead.
