IRS EXTENDS TAX-FILING DEADLINE AFTER SYSTEM OUTAGE
The Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for tax filing by one day following yesterday’s system outage.
Taxpayers who couldn’t file their taxes electronically due to “system issues” early yesterday will have until midnight tonight (Wednesday, April 18, 2018) to file or make payment. Those wishing to take advantage of the one-day extension (this includes individual filers and business entities alike) don’t need to do anything to receive this extra time, officials at the IRS said.
“This is the busiest tax day of the year, and the IRS apologizes for the inconvenience this system issue caused for taxpayers,” Acting IRS Commissioner David Kautter said. “The IRS appreciates everyone’s patience during this period. The extra time will help taxpayers affected by this situation.”
For taxpayers who still can’t meet the extended filing deadline, a six-month extension may be granted by following this link: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/extension-of-time-to-file-your-tax-return.
