A local woman was taken into custody on August 8, 2026, following a traffic stop on Big Horn Drive that led to the recovery of suspected fentanyl and charges of evidence tampering.

According to an incident report from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Caleb Charles conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Fusion at approximately 7:52 PM for a failure to maintain lane. The driver was identified as 56-year-old Jessica Renae Rimes of Crossville.

• The Traffic Stop: Deputies noted that Rimes exhibited extreme nervous behavior and could not provide proof of insurance.

• Attempted Concealment: Instructed to exit the vehicle, Rimes was observed attempting to conceal a tin foil bundle in her hand. She then threw the item underneath the rear of the vehicle and tried to retrieve it before deputies could secure it.

• Physical Intervention: To prevent the destruction or further concealment of the suspected narcotics, the reporting deputy used physical force to push Rimes away from the bundle and into the grass before taking her into custody. Rimes sustained minor scrapes to her knees but declined medical attention.

• Recovered Evidence: Upon inspection, the recovered tin foil bundle contained approximately 0.4 grams of a purple powdered substance identified as fentanyl.

During questioning, Rimes initially stated she believed the substance was heroin given to her by her son-in-law, but later identified the substance as fentanyl during a post-Miranda interview.

Rimes was transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Intake facility and charged with Simple Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and Tampering with Evidence. Her court date is scheduled for September 21, 2026, with bond set at $2,000 for the possession charge and $10,000 for evidence tampering.
