JOHN WAYNE HAMBY INDICTED FOR RAPE OF A CHILD

Cumberland County deputies went to a home on Price Loop near the Westel community yesterday to arrest 40-year-old John Wayne Hamby. He was indicted by a grand jury this week for rape of a child.

The offense report indicates back in August 2020, Hamby allegedly took the girl between the ages of 11 and 13 at the time for a ride. He later stopped, grabbed her chin and reportedly blew marijuana smoke into her mouth. Hamby drove to Renegade Mountain Parkway where stopped in a grassy area and forced more marijuana smoke into the victim’s mouth.

The girl told Hamby she wanted to go home but the suspect reportedly told her he would take her hostage. The report states that is when the act happened that Hamby was charged with. He later took her home and told her not to let anyone know of what happened.

The case was investigated and evidence obtained was presented to the grand jury Monday resulting in the indictment.

Hamby was taken to the Cumberland County jail and initially placed under $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in criminal court March 15, 2021.
