DRIVER DECEASED IN TRAFFIC CRASH ON MILLER BYPASS IN CROSSVILLE

Crossville police says a traffic crash on Miller Bypass at 4:45 a.m. this morning was the apparent result of a suicide. The subject was driving a Nissan sedan northbound when he fatally shot himself. The car crashed into a light pole close to the intersection of 10th Street and came to rest against a business sign.

The driver and sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

A firearm was recovered from within the vehicle and the investigation is continuing at this time. Further information will be released at a later date by the police department, pending notification of family.

The section of the bypass from Sparta Drive to 10th Street was closed around 5 a.m. so the crash could be reconstructed. As of 9 a.m. central, it was about to be re-opened as a wrecker arrived to remove the vehicle.

The Crossville Police Department would like to thank the responding Crossville Police Officers, Crossville Fire Department, Crossville Street Department, Cumberland County EMS, as well as Cumberland County 911 for their professionalism and assistance, in response to this tragedy.

READER NOTE – Since this has been ruled a suicide, the name of the driver will not be posted here or any follow up story regarding this incident.
