JUDGE SENTENCES TRIO CONVICTED IN MURDER OF ZAEVION DOBSON

A Knox County Criminal Court judge today sentenced three individuals convicted of the murder of 15-year-old Zaevion Dobson. In December of 2017, Christopher Bassett, Kipling Colbert, Jr. and Richard Williams III were all found guilty in connection to the murder. Bassett was found guilty of several charges including first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Judge Steve Sword sentenced Bassett to life plus 35 years. Colbert, Jr. was found guilty of several charges including facilitation of first degree murder and facilitation of attempted murder. He received a sentence of 109 years. Williams was found guilty of several charges including facilitation of first degree murder and facilitation of attempted murder. Williams was sentenced to 143 years. Zaevion Dobson was killed in December of 2015 while shielding friends from gunfire. Investigators reported the shooting was gang-related and the victims were picked at random.
