KINGSTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES $750,000 PROPERTY SALE FOR FUTURE GYMNASIUM
The Kingston City Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening, March 10, at City Hall. All members were present except Councilmember Martin.
The council took action to approve the sale of property the city purchased last year from Calvary Baptist Church for $200,000. The property will now be sold to an Ohio company for $750,000. According to City Manager David Bolling, the council agreed that the transaction represents a good deal all around. The buyer intends to develop the roughly 3.5-acre site, possibly for apartments.
The proceeds from the sale will be earmarked—through a specific amendment—for the future construction of a new recreation gymnasium once a suitable location is identified. Once the funds are deposited, they will also accrue interest until the city is ready to proceed with the facility. The purchaser is scheduled to attend next month’s work session, set for the first Tuesday in April, to explain his plans for the property.
