The Kingston City Council convened for its regular monthly session at City Hall, advancing several key initiatives, including a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement compact and a major update to municipal utility policies.

The council approved a mutual aid agreement to establish a joint SWAT team uniting the police departments of Kingston, Harriman, and Oliver Springs. Lawmakers also authorized a separate mutual aid compact enabling the Kingston Police Department to collaborate with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and officials at Fort Southwest Point State Park upon request. Additionally, the city passed a resolution to participate in the James L. Richardson Driver Training Matching Grant Program.

In unfinished business, the council passed the second and final reading of an ordinance revising policies for the Kingston Board of Waterworks. The change eliminates a decades-old practice by establishing that water customers outside city limits are no longer required to pay a sewer tap fee if municipal sewer lines run in front of their property but remain unconnected.

Before addressing the legislative agenda, the mayor issued two proclamations in cooperation with the Southwest Point Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, recognizing the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and designating Constitution Week.
