KINGSTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

During the Kingston City Council meeting last night, the council approved several agenda items. They passed an ordinance on first reading to establish a technology fee for Kingston Water Department customers using cellular-read meter capabilities. While sitting as water board members, they approved a $1 water rate increase to coincide with the installation of new meters, which will allow customers to monitor their water usage via their cell phones.

Water Department Manager Kevin Hamilton noted that it may take time for the new meters to arrive, and once installed, customers will receive a notice about the $1 charge and instructions for checking their meter usage on their iPhones to track leaks or other issues. The council also awarded a bid of $17,680 to Period Builders LLC for the court-ordered demolition and cleanup of 516 North 3rd Street. They approved applications for certificates of compliance for Three Rivers Wine and Spirits and 58 Wine and Spirits, both on Gallaher Road.

Additionally, the council approved a budget amendment on its second and final reading after a public hearing. Before addressing the agenda, the Mayor read a proclamation honoring the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Mayor also recognized 11-year-old Dustin Mount, a Cherokee Middle School student and baseball team member, who was selected as one of 18 players from 12,000 in the 11-and-under category to participate in an overseas baseball tournament. Dustin is the son of Jonathan and Laura Mount.
