KINGSTON CITY COUNCIL TO MEET TUESDAY, DEC. 11

The Kingston City Council is scheduled to meet tomorrow, December 11, at 6 p.m. at City Hall. On the agenda again is an issue dealing with how much money the city is willing to put in to the expansion of Dogwood Drive, which was targeted for development  a few years ago.

At that time, the estimated 140 acres adjacent to the interstate was eyed for possible retail development. The item was discussed at several prior city council meetings, but was turned down because of the approximately $1 million the city would have had to invest in the infrastructure to assist developers in preparing the property.

With TDOT planning to redevelop the westbound off ramp, they are asking the City of Kingston whether they are willing to use some of their street transportation program funds for the expansion; that would offset the city’s outlay for the expansion project.

A vote to hold off on spending money for the Dogwood Drive expansion came just before last November’s election, until after the new council could be seated. Now that they’ve been updated on what the city’s plans were for that area, a vote could come tomorrow night. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.; the public is invited to speak on this issue if they wish, especially those who live in the Dogwood Drive community and would be affected by the project.
