SHOULD CROSSVILLE HIRE MARKETING FIRM FOR NEW RECREATION CENTER?

Crossville City Council met Tuesday night with many things on the agenda. One of the topics was to hire a marketing firm to help survey residents and further ideas for the new Recreation Center.

The City Council member’s views varied. Some members mentioned how some residents are surprised the Recreation Center is still moving forward and how it’s too early to hire a marketing firm when they’re unsure of the cost of the new facility. They are not confident hiring a marketing firm if they don’t know if the new facility will be mainly for the citizens of Crossville or something for recreation and tourism.

Other members stated how it could help get feedback from the residents on what they want from the Recreation Center. The marketing firm is mostly for surveying.

The biggest concern for most citizens is the overall price tag of the new Recreation Center. The Crossville City Council has estimated the cost for construction of the new facility to be around 55 million dollars. This summer, dozens of citizens showed up at the meeting scheduled to pass the budget for the rec center to voice their dismay with the cost of the project. In the end, Mayor Crawford tabled the rec center proposal saying they would wait for more information on the cost, construction, and feasibility of an indoor rec center.  Some estimates have indicated that the recreation center project could result in as much as a one dollar per thousand dollars of appraised value property tax increase would be required for City of Crossville property owners.

According to the city’s webpage, these are the four options they are proposing:

Each of these options provides a space for everyone of any age to enjoy the amenities. City Council wants to do what is best for the citizens while also helping Crossville grow and draw in more families and industry.
