KINGSTON GIVEN 60 DAYS TO FIX PROBLEMS AT PORTER PARK

The City of Kingston is facing a 60-day deadline to fix problems at Porter Park or face losing state grant money needed to pay for upgrades to the park. The issue will be put before the mayor and city council at a workshop tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 6, 2017). Plans to remodel the park are still in disarray more than a year after the project began following a series of problems with the quality of the work performed by Southeast Contractors. According to a letter from City Manager David Bolling to the mayor and city council, a May 25 inspection by Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation revealed several items not in compliance with state regulations. “Although she certainly didn’t have to, (TDEC inspector April Johnson) indicated that she was willing to recommend that we receive an additional 60 days to complete the project, due to numerous deficiencies beyond our immediate control,” said Bolling.
