KNOX CO. BOMB SQUAD CALLED TO CROSSVILLE TO DISPOSE OF MILITARY PROJECTILE
Crossville firefighters and police were summoned to a home at 26 Vaughn Street right off North Main Street. A subject cleaning a storage shed behind the dwelling discovered a military projectile and called authorities. It appeared to be from the World War II up to the Vietnam or Korea war period. The Knox County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was called in to dispose of the bazooka rocket. Once they determined the projectile was live, they took it to a remote area off Bradshaw Lane in the Westel community, where it was detonated. Earlier in the evening, a county-wide alert was issued by mistake for a possible evacuation, however, the alert was meant for residents in the immediate area of the home on Vaughn Street in Crossville.
