KNOXVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH SECOND DUI AFTER CRASH KILLS TODDLER

The driver of a car that crashed on I-40 westbound Friday, killing a toddler, has been charged with a second DUI, as well as driving on a revoked license, Knox County court records show.

Twenty-six-year-old Joevon D. Foust of Knoxville was seen driving erratically and at excessive speeds early Friday. Foust lost control, ran off the road and hit some trees near the Strawberry Plains Pike exit.

Foust, 26-year-old Jasmine Irvin and 2-year-old Zyliya Irvin were thrown from the vehicle. The child was in a car seat in the back, but it wasn’t properly fastened, a police spokesman said.

Jasmine Irvin suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Foust was said to have told officers he’d been drinking, and had an “extreme odor of alcohol” about him.

Foust had previously pleaded guilty to DUI in 2016. His license had been revoked as a result of that DUI. He’s due to appear in court today
