MEIGS COUNTY CHURCH DESTROYED BY BLAZE

A Meigs County church community is planning to rebuild their worship space after a blaze tore through it Monday afternoon, leaving behind charred ruins.

Half a dozen fire crews responded to the fire at Peakland Baptist Church, and state bomb and arson investigators are sifting through the rubble, trying to determine what happened. Initial reports indicate the blaze seems to have started in the church basement. Nobody was injured.

In a Facebook post, Peakland Baptist thanked first responders for their efforts, adding, “God has a plan… we are standing on HIS promises.”

Church leaders say services will be conducted in the fellowship hall until a new church can be built.
