LOUD DRUNK MAN TRIES WALKING HOME THROUGH THE WOODS THE WRONG WAY

On Monday around 5:54 p.m., Officer Sherrill was dispatched to the area of Braun Hill Circle and Brenda Lane about an intoxicated man walking around the area and yelling loudly. Dispatch had received multiple calls about this man, and, upon arriving at the area, the officer was waved down by a resident who said the man had tried to pull on the handle of her home’s back door but then jumped a fence and ran into the woods when her dogs began barking.
When checking around the area of Braun Hill Circle’s dead end, Officer Sherill observed the man exiting the woods and coming toward the road. He seemed to have difficulty maintaining his balance, had watery red eyes, and slurred speech along with the odor of alcohol on him. The man was identified as Willard Schubert, who denied consuming any alcohol but was confused about where he was. Schubert said he was on his way to Tansi but had no idea what street he was actually on.
Schubert was deemed to be a danger to himself in his intoxicated state and tried to walk through the woods to Tansi which was on the opposite side of town. Being a loud nuisance and attempting to enter a resident’s home prompted the officer to place him in custody. After some resistance, he was eventually transported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office for booking where he was charged with public intoxication.
