MAN ARRESTED AFTER EVADING ARREST IN CONSTRUCTION ZONE IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
On the night of April 28, 2026, Sergeant Brandon Griffin of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gary Allen Woody, a 50-year-old resident of Crossville, Tennessee, following a high-speed pursuit. The incident began at approximately 9:52 PM near the intersection of Highway 127 North and Potato Farm Road, where Sergeant Griffin observed a vehicle with illegally dark window tint. As the officer turned to follow, the vehicle accelerated to 74 mph in a 45 mph construction zone. Despite the officer activating his emergency equipment, the vehicle continued to travel at speeds between 65 and 70 mph before eventually stopping on Leland Pryor Road.
Upon making contact, Sergeant Griffin identified the driver as Woody, who was taken into custody without further incident. After being read his Miranda rights, Woody admitted to fleeing because he was driving on a revoked license and wanted to return the vehicle to his employer. Woody was charged with Evading Arrest and Driving on a Revoked/Suspended License, with total bonds set at $12,000. His court appearance is scheduled for June 8, 2026, in General Sessions court.
