MAN ARRESTED AFTER SLAMMING VEHICLE INTO CUMBERLAND COVE SIGN
Yesterday, Cumberland County deputies were called to intercept a driver reportedly violating an order of protection. Officers found a truck occupied by 67-year-old Robert Wayne Slagle of Monterey at the Cumberland Cove Welcome Center. Slagle was asked several times to get out of the vehicle. Instead, he reportedly accelerated backward, almost striking the officer and a female who was there. Slagle fled the scene on Highway 70 but crashed into the Cumberland Cove sign on East Cove Road minutes later. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, then to jail for reckless endangerment and evading arrest.
