MAN ASSAULTS FATHER WITH DEADLY WEAPON AND RUNS AWAY

On Sunday, Officer Osmun with Crossville City Police responded to Neacham St for a physical domestic assault at around 9:24 p.m. Osman was advised by dispatch that Christopher Howell, hit his father in the head with a blackjack and then took off running out the front door.
A blackjack is a footlong club with one end thicker than the other, usually made of lead and wrapped in leather.
The father said he attempted to follow Howell, but due to his injury, he started to lose his vision and became extremely disoriented causing him to lose sight of his son. The father refused transport or medical attention by emergency medical services and his head was wrapped in gauze for the bleeding.
Officer Osmun spoke with a witness who advised that Howell was in the kitchen heating up food when all of a sudden she heard the victim yell out in sounds of pain, and then saw Howell run out the front door of the residence with a blackjack in hand. The witness also stated that Howell should also have a warrant and believed him to be at the storage units at the corner of Main Street and Cother Street.
The victim was able to point out to Officer Massey where he last Saw Christopher Howell, and Massey then attempted a K9 track.
After using a K9 unit as well as drone deployment by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Howell was located and taken into custody 2 hours later, found hiding in a tree line near Wayne Ave. and Broad St.
The blackjack was never located, and while advising Howell of his bond conditions, he interrupted officers and said “Yeah, but you never found the weapon on me.”
Howell was charged with aggravated domestic assault, and evading, as well as served with his outstanding warrant for probation violation which was confirmed with dispatch.
Howell’s father, the victim, stated he couldn’t get the bleeding to stop from the laceration to his head and went to Cumberland Medical Center for treatment.
